Best activities for summer holidays in Majorca

Guide to outdoor activities in Mallorca: make the most of this beautiful island with our guide to the best activities in the great outdoors.
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and one of the favorite holiday destinations in Europe, with excellent flight connections and easy to reach. From a sumptuous suite in a luxury hotel, or an ultra-luxe private estate, the island offers bespoke options for every guest and certainly a magnificent variety of fine restaurants and chic bars.

It is known for secluded beaches and excellent golfing conditions, but there are more choices for activities around. Here we have some ideas for you.

Hiking

The Tramuntana region offers many options for hikers of all skill levels including some scenic walks for families. If you want to combine hike & swim, the region of Sant Elm and Dragonera, as well as the south east are good options.

Canyoning

If you haven’t yet heard about this fun sport, Mallorca could be an option to give it a first try, in case you are on the island in the less dry time (October – April) and creeks have enough water. The Tramuntana region has some different options in store for a fun excursion in a wetsuit – rappelling, some jumps into ponds and sliding included!

Cycling

Mallorca has a long standing reputation of offering ideal conditions for cycling training; it is the top pick for many of the big cycling teams who frequently visit in early springtime for training camps. Whether you come for a full week of training or just want to take the one or other ride around, there are rental shops and plenty of routes.

SUP - Stand Up Paddle

Having originated in Hawaii, this fun sport has long made its way over to Europe and is a perfect activity as well for families. Standing on a wide foam board with excellent buoyancy and a paddle in the hand surfing just becomes easier for everyone, and not even waves are necessary to enjoy this sport.

Diving

Mallorca might not be known for diving, yet it does offer some good spots and it’s recommendable to give it a try there. Especially, if you are not on a specific dive holiday, but want to get in the water for a day. Marine life is diverse, octopus, barracuda, morays and groupers are a common sight.

Caving Expeditions

A year round activity for the whole family, caving tours lead you inside some of the hundreds of Mallorca’s underground caves. Famous Cuevas del Drach in south east Mallorca, or less frequented caves, it is an adrenaline boosting experience.

Additional information

While there is certainly more activities, in comparison to other Mediterranean destinations Mallorca might not offer the ideal conditions or infrastructure to do them all year round. However, here is some additional information:
