Aesthetic dermatology and the science of anti-aging

Anti-aging skin care treatments come in a variety of forms, and new advances are being made all the time. Dr. Harald Gerny, expert cosmetic dermatologist and founder of the Cell Premium stem cell skin care line, shares his expert advice in this exclusive interview.
Dr. Harald Gerny is a cosmetic dermatologist and founder of the revolutionary skincare line Cell Premium, which harnesses the power of plant stem cells as a powerful anti-aging ingredient in a range of beauty products. In this interview, he discusses the advantages of different dermatological procedures from a medical perspective.

Treating aging skin with stem cell cream is very gentle. Do you offer any other similar procedures?

While there are many non-surgical procedures for skin rejuvenation, there are unfortunately not many cosmetic dermatology treatments that are as pleasant and enjoyable as Cell Premium treatments, although their goal is the same.

Unlike plastic surgery, where a portion of the aged and UV-damaged skin is just removed, we cosmetic dermatologists try to partially restore quality to skin which has been damaged by age and sun.

This is accomplished through replacements, activation, reduction of overactive facial expressions and partial removal (peeling) of skin layers.

In aesthetic dermatology, in addition to gentle methods such as cream, there are more invasive anti-aging procedures such as injections or the like. What exactly are these procedures?

Replacements consist of injections with hyaluronic acid, the 4 plant stem cells mentioned previously, vitamins, fat cell cleaving agents and much more.

Reducing overactive facial expression is done by injections of botolinumtoxin (most commonly known as Botox). A bubble can be produced by ultrasound in the oversized fat cells in cellulite, which destroys them when it bursts.

Radio frequency activates your skin’s natural elasticity and collagen cells to produce new collagen and elastin. The use of chemical peels and microdermabrasion can also activate your own collagen production.

Fraxel lasers remove the top layers of skin and leave invisible miniature holes, which new collagen is produced in.

Needle treatments function in a similar way: tiny holes are placed in the skin with a needle, partly to make new collagen form and partly so that previously-applied plant stem cells can penetrate deeper into the skin.

Using laser technology and IPL, we can gently remove troublesome pigmentation, enlarged veins, rosacea and spider veins, excessive hair growth and benign skin growths of any kind, mostly without leaving any scarring.

Unlike plastic surgery, where a portion of the aged and UV-damaged skin is just removed, we cosmetic dermatologists try to partially restore quality to skin which has been damaged by age and sun.

Are these methods effective in preventing skin aging?

These methods are very gentle and effective, have no side effects and the patient can return to their business and social commitments the next day.

Rejuvenating treatments must be applied several times. The effects associated with injections, peels, microdermabrasion and laser treatments are quickly visible, while radiofrequency and ultrasound treatments display results after 1 - 2 months.

Do you provide any of these treatments and therapies at your clinic?

In my clinic, The Swiss Skin Center by Dr. Gerny and in our luxurious Cell Premium Lounge, we offer all of these treatments.

What are the costs of achieving beautiful skin like this?

Costs range from a minimum of CHF 80 up to CHF 3,000 depending on the combination of treatments. To maintain the result, a skin analysis using the latest high-tech equipment is always performed.

This evaluation ensures optimal care for the individual, tailored to their actual skin type. With this up-to-date skin analysis, a detailed profile of the improvement in skin quality can be documented and controlled.
