A place of history, beaches, and activities, take the whole family for a fantastic holiday in Lisbon - check out our top insider tips!

1. Oceanário

Take a dive undersea without even getting wet at Oceanário, the world’s second largest aquarium. Created as the centrepiece for the 1998 World’s Fair in Lisbon, this state-of-the-art facility is the epitome of the fair’s focus on the oceans.

Perfect for children and adults, explore the depths and wonders that can only be found leagues under the sea. Continuously updating new and exciting exhibits, this is the ideal place to learn and spend an unforgettable day in the heart of Lisbon.

2. Jardim Zoologico

Continue exploring the wonders of the natural world at the Jardim Zoologico, Lisbon’s famous zoo. With hundreds of exhibits and exhilarating things to learn and discover, no child will want to leave.

Kiss a sea-lion, hold a koala, see some of the world’s most fascinating creatures up close. It’s easy to make a whole day of it, with the Animax amusement park, with its numerous adventure rides, child-friendly restaurants, and scenic picnic areas.

3. Santini’s Gelati

Recharge with some of Lisbon’s very best gelato in Portugal at Santini. Fresh, creamy, and delicious, no one can say no to a scoop (or two) here and it is sure to put a smile (and an ice-cream mustache) on any kid’s face.

Each superb scoop is made using real fruit and flavours to bring you a truly gourmet ice-cream experience. But be careful on weekends, as the queues of locals and tourists in the know are known to get long, though no matter the wait, it’s undoubtably worth it.

4. Pavilhão do Conhecimento (Science Museum)

Spend a rainy day (or just any day) inside at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento, Lisbon’s renowned science museum built, with the Oceanário for the the 1998 World Expo. Located right next to the Oceanário, this is perfect on its own or in addition to the aquarium to make a full day of learning and discovery for every age.

Fully interactive with various temporary exhibits featuring exciting natural and scientific discoveries such as the T-Rex exhibit on currently. Also featuring earth, sea, and outer-space sections, this science museum is ideal for children of all ages (including grown-up children too!).

5. Costa da Caparica

In Portugal, there’s nothing like a day on the beach. Hit the miles of pure white sand just south of Costa da Caparica with the whole family for a perfect day of sunbathing and swimming.

You’re sure to find a great spot—there is over 30 km of soft sand to choose from. For the little ones, try the Logoa de Albufeira, an enormous, sandy lagoon protected from the waves and perfect for wading and playing. Behind the beach are scenic white cliffs of a natural preserve, a beautiful backdrop for a day in the sun.
