The best spas, parks and garden to relax in Berlin

So you’ve hit the museums, the art galleries, the historic sites, the shopping centres—you could use a chance to chill-out. Which is why we have our picks of favourite relaxing hideaways in town.
There’s nothing like a picnic in the one of Berlin’s beautiful parks, or being pampered in a luxury spa to help soak away the aches and pains of touring. Our insiders have searched high and low to bring you the very best of Berlin’s bliss.

Pools and Spas:

Stadtbad Neukölln

Passing beneath the bland concrete exterior, a magnificent world of Corinthian columns, fountains, mosaics, glittering pools and idyllic relaxation will take your breath away. Easily one of the best pools in Berlin, Stadtbad Neukölln’s spa facilities include large and small pools, Finnish sauna, herbal sauna, steam room, samarium and caldarium, making it absolutely perfect for any type of holiday.

Originally built in 1914, recent restorations have made it utterly state-of-the-art while maintaining this historic glamour.

Liquidrom

Delicately conflating space-age and classic, chic and soothing, Liquidrom is Berlin’s premier spa.

Soak the world away beneath the dramatic archways in the warm, saltwater pools, enjoy the stylish warmth of the saunas and sun beds, or rejuvenate tired muscles and minds with a soothing massage. Here, watch calming light shows play over the stonework and enjoy the smooth music that echoes through the halls, creating a sumptuously unique atmosphere.

Badeschiff

Opened as an art project, Badeschiff (meaning ‘Bathing Ship’) has quickly become one of Berlin’s premier summer hangouts.

Made up of a pool sunk into the River Spree, and including sprawling sun decks, a bar, and even DJs spinning some of Berlin’s latest tunes, this is one of the Berlin’s most exciting attractions for all ages. And the fun isn’t just limited to summer months: in winter, a series of translucent domes turns this pool into a wellness area complete with saunas, cooling platform, bar, and relaxing areas.

Parks and Gardens:

Volkspark Friedrichshain

Berlin’s oldest municipal park, the Volkspark is also one of Berlin’s most beautiful. Dramatically changed after WWII when two bunkers were covered with rubble and earth forming the two “mountains” which dominate the park, these now offer stunning views of the city and an idyllic place to hideaway from the buzz of town.

Located between Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg, in summer this park is the popular haunt of the hip and trendy, who long to laze in the sunshine.

Botanischer Garten

Consistently ranked among the top botanical gardens in the world, Berlin’s Botanischer Garten is a standout location for relaxation. Enjoy the soothing energy of nature in the 43 hectare space, showcasing plants and trees from all over the world.

Consisting of an arboretum, an exhibition area, 15 greenhouses—one of which is over 25 meters tall and built in 1907—, and a permanent collection of 1,500 plant types, there’s no better place to rediscover your roots and forget the buzz of the bug city.
